Michael Rosen is one of the best known figures, not only in the children's book world but also the British arts scene.

and don’t forget the knife, and don’t forget to put them away, plate in the cupboard, and the knife in the drawer, and back up to bed. Waldron’s comedic caricatures bring the original poem to life in a unique and hilarious way, filling familiar sounding scenes with surprising detail to spot in-between verses. Gaggiotti’s illustration especially capture the energy of lively children, something we are gifted with, likewise Rosen’s verse captures the singlemindedness of children, something we see a lot of in our house. He was the Children’s Laureate from 2007-2009 and has published over 200 books for children and adults, including the recent bestseller Many Different Kinds of Love and On The Move. When you are reading a highly popular series that is also old it's hard not to see spoilers so out of my deductions from living on bookstagram I have made a few predictions but time will tell as I continue the series with Heir of Fire.

Both are wonderfully illustrated, lyrical tales of children’s uncontrollable desire to eat chocolate cake. Add the milk/ cream of tartar solution to the oil, egg and vanilla mixture and stir, then add to the dry ingredients. The scene that the above quote comes from is when Dorian sees Celaene carrying a whole chocolate cake to her rooms. Her new book, Simple Cake, debuts in the world today and it is a true gem—a really special breed of a baking book—honest and heartfelt and beautiful and full of love. She went on and on about how some little girl’s Babushka made the cake for her to help her overcome her fear of thunder. When you look at the picture of the boy in the book, you can decide whether you think he looks like a very young version of me.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a rainy day than with a great book, a happy little girl, and some Thunder Cake. I love the way the typeface changes to enhance the descriptive words as they work seamlessly with the pictures.Right off the back of reviewing "I Really Want the Cake" by Simon Philip and Lucia Gaggiotti, this is another great tale of a midnight feast gone wrong.
